Overview

Tianjin, one of the four municipalities in China, has more than 10 million people lives in this region. Meanwhile, as the third largest city in China only after Beijing and Shanghai, Tianjin also known the world for being a famous international port city, this is the biggest coastal city in northern China. Tianjin will host the sixth East Asia Games in 2013.


Tianjin, the name was called at the beginning of Yongle Years of the Ming Dynasty at first, which meant that the area was passed through by the Son of the Heaven. At the second year of Yongle Years (1404), Tianjin began to build city wall and defenses, named “Tianjinwei” for strategic reason. Tianjin is a famous historical and cultural city, experienced over 600 years’ brilliant history. Especially in the nearly 100 years’ modern times, since the year of 1860, the Anglo-French Allied Force invaded and conquered the Tianjin, later turned it into a international settlement and developed with different countries, which gave Tianjin a unique city view of Chinese and Western, ancient and modern style subsequently.


Tianjin has 15 important heritage sites under state protection, including Dule Temple, which has 16-meter high clay sculpture finished in Tang dynasty (984A.D.); Dagu Fort; World Cultural Heritage: Huang Yaguan Great Wall, which has beacon towers over 20 in various types. Moreover, the well preserved 870 historical buildings in Western and ancient styles is another bright pearl in Tianjin, hardly to see in other places and gives the Tianjin another name of : International Architeture Exhibition.
